Akzo Nobel
Supporting Akzo Nobel for over two decades
Akzo Nobel (formerly ICI Paints) has grown at a pace since the 1990s, and so too has its support from TDG, now acknowledged as one of Akzo's top five suppliers in Europe. Today, TDG’s end-to-end supply chain solutions for Akzo Nobel extend as far as China. Impressively, £4.4 million savings have been achieved through gain share initiatives in just three years from 2005 - 2007.
Delivering quantifiable benefits
- Akzo's distribution fleet of 82 vehicles delivers to trade and retail outlets around the UK. 285,000 tonnes of coatings is also transported per year.
- Akzo relies on TDG to fulfil the promise of next day availability. For B&Q, TDG ensures all orders received by 6am arrive the same day.
- 59 million tins of paint are picked annually. TDG has introduced voice recognition technology to improve speed and accuracy.
- Accuracy KPI’s are 99.8% or above, whilst on time delivery is 99.9%.
"We previously incurred costs of around £200,000 per year to dispose of cardboard and polythene waste from our Dulux Decorator Centres. Now the TDG fleet which delivers to the entire network of trade and retail outlets also picks up this waste, processes it back at the depots and then sells it on for recycling. As well as saving money, this initiative also reduces empty miles travelled – two reasons why it helped them to win both the Akzo Nobel Sustainability Award in the UK and the global Chairman’s Award.”
