Argos

An agile and flexible supply chain for Argos

Argos required a dedicated distribution centre in Scotland and had clear responsiveness and cost-efficiency objectives. TDG’s existing facility at Mossend was ideally located but capacity and resources were insufficient. TDG reshaped the building and also invested in additional vehicles, parking, staff, security and training to meet Argos’s needs.

Delivering quantifiable results

  • TDG Mossend provides 330,000 square feet of warehouse capacity, including 29,000 pallet locations, 7,000 pick slots and state-of-the-art voice pick technology.
  • Part of the solution is a 24 hour onsite security team. TDG’s recommended provider is now used by Argos on a national basis.
  • Finely tuned communication processes and supporting systems have been introduced. These enable TDG to respond immediately to fluctuating store requirements.
  • Multiple KPI’s are in place: cases picked, cages dispatched and pallets moved are typical hourly measures. TDG consistently achieves 99% or above.
  • TDG’s continuous inventory of stocks and inter-warehouse transport ensure maximum efficiency across all operations.

Argos and TDG have now also set up 4PL contract managing the movement of returned goods to warehouses and resellers in Europe which is already performing well.

“Our customers quite rightly have high expectations of us, and as a consequence Argos also expects extremely high performance standards from its partners. TDG have worked hard to build a motivated and highly responsive distribution centre which now delivers excellent support across the Northern region.”
Catherine McDermott, Distribution Director, Argos
