Taking excellence to new levels

We’re continuously improving for the sake of our customers

We proactively seek out new ways to push the boundaries of operational excellence so our customers stay one step ahead of the game. In fact, a commitment to continuous improvement is at the heart of TDG’s culture. It’s all about enhancing and sustaining your long-term competitiveness.

In 2004 we introduced our Continuous Improvement Management System (CIMS) which focuses on four key operational areas: safety, quality, customer service and sustained continuous improvement. CIMS is consistently applied with sufficient flexibility to enable its application to the huge range of operational profiles TDG manage on behalf of our customers. The system is based on four core principles:

  • Everything TDG does is driven by our customers
  • Robust process underpins everything we do - (Plan, Do, Check, Act)
  • Engaging our people multiplies the investment we make in them, and
  • We accept we are not perfect but that's our goal! - process perfection

CIMS is also certified to ISO9001, enabling operations to achieve full certification, where this supports our customers strategic objectives. The four core principles of CIMS are now becoming further embedded in our business through the development of TDG’s Lean Logistics; based on the same Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle. Lean Logistics, supported and driven by TDG’s senior management team targets the elimination of waste throughout every process we manage.

Examples of Continuous Improvement in practice include:

  • Our CPC accredited Five Star training program for LGV drivers and MHE operatives is continually updated to comply with, and where desirable, exceed industry standards and the latest legislative developments.
  • Our industry-first Business Continuity Management system takes an integrated approach to protecting supply chains from the impact of disruptive incidents
  • Every site maintains a 'live' continuous improvement action plan detailing what will happen when. This greatly enhances TDG's ability to share best practice across the business.
  • TDG provides industry-leading ADR driving training courses for drivers from all over the UK
  • Our online learning programme, the TDG Academy, enables staff to continuously improve their skills
  • Rigorous Health and Safety audits help to support industry-leading accident reduction performance and the ongoing promotion of behavioural safety.
