There's no end game to doing things better

Our whole approach to continuous improvement is that we just keep on going. Competition is fierce and for ourselves and on behalf of our customers we continually examine what we do and how we do it. Managing the business proactively helps improve competitiveness, a reactive stance will only lead to failure.

To support our efforts we use a Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle which ultimately improves the performance of the operations we manage by building on our strengths and identifying opportunities for both financial and functional improvements. And for those customers that require accreditation, our process meets the ISO9001:2000 standard.

Whatever the benefits of the continuous improvement process we aim to make sure they are deliverable now, as well as sustainable in the long term. Any initiatives should also generate operational efficiencies and/or improve customer service, but at worst they shouldn't undermine either of these critical factors. Although, the process is facilitated by a central team, they make sure they involve people from the operation at all stages. This improves both the quality of the ideas generated as well as their ultimate implementation.

The final piece of the jigsaw comes in the measurement. Our mantra is simple. No measurement without recording, no recording without analysis, no analysis without action, no action without measurement. That way the supply chain is more visible. This means we're more accountable and our customers are in a stronger position to make decisions about their business.
