Turning 'green logistics' into a reality
What’s good for the environment is often better for your bottom line
Reducing fuel miles, energy consumption and waste, not only benefits the environment, it’s likely to save you money too. Here’s an example: through collaboration with Kimberly-Clark and Kellogg’s, TDG has reduced annual fuel miles by 270,000 with a corresponding drop in diesel consumption of more than 140,000 litres per year. The combined environmental benefits equate to annual savings of 380,000kgs CO2, and a 7% reduction in transport costs for both manufacturers.
TDG is advancing ‘green logistics’ across the board
- Our established transport optimisation strategies deliver greater fuel efficiency, carbon reduction and reduced transport miles travelled
- Through our involvement with the National Container Group (NGC), we offer an innovative closed-loop IBC cleaning operation that recovers, cleans, repairs and returns containers for reuse – this reduces the contamination risk, extends the asset life at reduced cost and is a responsible method of plastics disposal
- TDG’s 4PL platform centrally manages complex supply chains and large-scale logistics requirements and opportunities for greater efficiencies can be identified
- TDG are one of the launch members of the Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme. This initiative, developed by the FTA, will require members to report their carbon emissions from freight transport on a quarterly basis and set targets for reduction
- We have also been involved in testing low carbon vehicle technologies including cab deflectors and low rolling resistance tyres in conjunction with the Department for Transport and Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership.
- We employ the latest vehicle telematics and route planning software to maximise the productivity and security of our fleet.
- Our stackable trailers reduce the number of cabs required to return empty trailers. Read about the great results we’ve achieved for The Tata Group.
- We reduce the amount of waste, reuse waste and packaging where possible and efficiently recycle whatever we can
