Glen Dimplex signs three year extension

Glen Dimplex Home Appliances (www.gdha.com), has renewed its UK transport business with TDG for another three years. It started using the TDG fleet in 2000.

Glen Dimplex Home Appliances is part of Glen Dimplex Group, the world's largest electrical heating business. Its brands include Stoves, Belling, New World, Lec, Morphy Richards, Xpelair, Dimplex and Roberts Radio and its products range from irons and vacuum cleaners to fridges, cookers and fires.

Working alongside Glen Dimplex’ 450,000sq ft warehouse in Stoke on Trent, TDG delivers articulated loads throughout the UK into the major multiples and run a groupage service to smaller retailers.

Paul Brereton, TDG Contract Manager said: “even though we have a great working relationship with Glen Dimplex, we are never complacent about our customers. We are always looking at ways we can reduce costs and improve efficiencies.”

In particular, on this business, TDG has taken an innovative approach to cost by generating backhaul revenue and has reduced idle shifts by finding supplementary work.

“Our in-house developed transport-planning software gives us visibility of the whole of the UK transport situation,” explained Paul. “This, combined with the scale of our company provides opportunities to minimize empty running – which saves our customers money and removes empty miles too.”

‘Working in partnership with TDG has helped reduce cost per box delivery rates’ says Ian Worsley, Head of Logistics at GDHA. ‘And extra contract logistic work has helped generate cost reduction for both parties’
