Kimberly-Clark

Partnership solutions and crisis management for Kimberly-Clark

Kimberly-Clark is one of the world's leading health and hygiene companies. TDG is responsible for their warehouse storage and distribution facilities in the UK; as well as the European Distribution Centre in Germany.

The relationship was put to the test in 2004 when a fire destroyed half a million cases of paper products, computer equipment and administrative records. TDG and Kimberly-Clark worked through the weekend – night and day – to establish full connectivity by Monday morning. By utilising other operational centres and sourcing additional product stocks from across Europe, TDG successfully met the record orders for the month of July. At the same time, TDG also sourced a new warehouse distribution centre in Dartford. The new facility was fully stocked and operational within weeks.

Delivering quantifiable results

  • TDG run an automated warehouse facility for Kimberly-Clark, containing high bay storage for 60,000 pallets.
  • As the largest high cube transport operation in the UK, TDG utilise 90 vehicles and 270 high cube trailers with side apertures of over 3 metres to maximise fleet utilisation.
  • TDG also actively develops compatible opportunities for shared-user transport arrangements. These currently include: SAICA, Georgia Pacific, Kimberly-Clark, Kellogg’s and LPR Pallets.
  • Through successful three-way collaboration between Kellogg’s, TDG and Kimberly-Clark, this partnership has reduced miles travelled and CO2 emissions considerably. Transport costs for both Kimberly-Clark and Kellogg’s have also reduced by 7% as a result.

“TDG really have proved a safe pair of hands. Whether considering our day-to-day operations or their response during one of the most challenging incidents in our company history, TDG have proved easy to work with, responsive and effective. We look forward to continuing our successful relationship.”
Paul Tovey, Logistics Operations Director Western Europe, Kimberly-Clark
