Nampak Plastics is one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of HDPE drinks containers. They need a reliable transport partner to deliver the highest service levels: TDG has proved a perfect fit.

Nampak operations were already efficient therefore reducing costs is a constant challenge. TDG has introduced a transport management system (TMS), improved route planning, job allocation, and tied longer runs in with longer shifts, thus reducing reduced unproductive time and improving workforce effectiveness. Return journeys are now used for customer collections; changeovers and customer load journeys are optimised to levy further benefits.

Delivering quantifiable benefits

• Fleet size has reduced by 20%. 34 tractors and 210 high-cube trailers for voluminous loads are now used and managed by 5 office staff and 60 drivers.
• Vehicles are fully compliant with ‘Primary’ food hygiene regulations. Regular vehicle checks are carried out and staff training kept up to date with Health & Safety protocols.
• Nampak drivers now also benefit from TDG’s award winning 5-star driver development training programme, further boosting skills.
• Previously, the Nampak team achieved OTIF at 92%. TDG is contracted at to achieve 96% - and this is achieved or exceeded month on month.
