Nampak case study: responsive logistics solutions for the UK's largest milk bottle manufacturer

Nampak Plastics is one of UK’s largest manufacturers of HDPE containers for the drink industry. Their broad portfolio includes the production and supply of over 1. 25 billion milk bottles to the UK dairy industry every year. Maintaining a responsive and flexible supply chain to manage the movement of plastic milk bottles of varying shapes and sizes, to leading dairies such as Arla, Robert Wiseman and Dairycrest, is a key part of their customer service offering.

Nampak produces several bottle variations at seven manufacturing sites around the UK. The plastic production process can be volatile and, with onerous penalty clauses in place with their clients, Nampak need a reliable and agile transport supplier who can deliver the highest levels of service possible. Partnership is vital. If a machine goes down in one facility, there can be as little as four hours notice to move products from an alternative Nampak location so dairy production can continue.

Nampak’s primary UK logistics requirement is to transport finished products to dairies within tight timelines. Utilising specialist loading equipment; maintaining strict Health & Safety and cleanliness protocols; and keeping a tight rein on costs are all a pre requisite.

So they chose TDG to help them with their supply chain.
