Tesco Fuels

Helping Tesco meet customer fuel demands

Operating 430 filling stations around the country, Tesco sells 6 billion litres of fuel annually - and holds an impressive 15% of the total UK fuel market. Each Tesco filling station sells between 40,000 and 200,000 litres daily, increasing by 20% during promotions and holidays.

Tesco had experienced problems with its previous arrangements including the cost-effectiveness of sourcing and delivery arrangements as well as intermittent fuel availability. As a result of its consistently high performance, TDG has since taken over distribution to all Tesco’s UK filling stations.

Delivering practical solutions

  • The fleet of fuel tankers is operated by a TDG team which includes 300 drivers, operational management, engineers, traffic desk co-ordinators, tacograph analysts and night crew.
  • TDG fuel tankers are also on stand-by to provide additional capacity during busy periods. Daily routing plans and variable shift patterns allow for flexible resource levels according to forecourt usage.
  • Competition for the fuel pound is fierce, therefore prompting regular promotions, all of which TDG are able to support – ensuring product availability meets customer demand and protecting the Tesco brand in the process.

“TDG not only meet our exacting standards: they work alongside us to achieve greater efficiency across our fuel logistics operations. By helping us to consistently meet customer needs, TDG also help to protect the Tesco brand and build customer loyalty.”
Julian Morgan, Fuel Logistics Manager, Tesco
