Managing our impact on the world around us
Getting goods to where they need to be when they need to be there keeps our economy moving. Manufacturing and using these goods puts a strain on the environment. And we’re very aware that our warehouses and our fleets of vehicles also have an impact. Our aim is to manage our activities so that this impact is minimal and reduces over time.
Our Environment Policy Statement sets out our priorities and objectives for the environment and how we expect to work towards these.
Our environmental efforts fall into four main areas: preventing pollution, improving efficiency, reducing the burden and checking progress.
Preventing pollution – some of the products we store are hazardous and many sites produce wastes and effluents that must be managed. To ensure our sites adequately protect the environment we’re developing Environmental Standards for our main activities, including:
- oil storage
- product storage & transfer
- waste storage, management & movement
- drainage & effluent discharges
